Dr Michael Huo
SPECIALIST AREAS
Dr Michael Huo is a Radiation Oncologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, and is part of the Gamma Knife® Centre of Queensland. He specialises in stereotactic radiosurgery and urological cancers, and has an interest in the rapid relief of symptoms with palliative radiotherapy.
EDUCATION
Having grown up in Brisbane, Dr Huo completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 2010. He commenced specialty training in Radiation Oncology in 2014, rotating through Cairns, Toowoomba, and Brisbane. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 2019.
In 2018 he commenced a 12-month clinical fellowship at the world-renown Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada, where he focused on stereotactic radiosurgery and palliative radiotherapy. In 2019 he was appointed as the inaugural Gamma Knife Fellow at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, before being appointed as a Staff Specialist in 2020.
RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS
Dr Huo is involved in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials involving brain metastases. He is the local principal investigator for two stereotactic radiosurgery studies, in collaboration with other hospitals in Australia and overseas. He has published textbook chapters on the topic of brain metastases, as well as multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented at national and international conferences, and serves as a reviewer for several journals.
AWARDS & MEMBERSHIPS
Dr Huo is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS), the Leksell Gamma Knife Society (LGKS) and the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP). He holds the position of Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland. He is also an educator for the Queensland Radiation Oncology Training Network and for final year UQ medical students.
